Today we are excited to mark the 120-year anniversary of Maersk! On 16 April 1904, our founder, A.P. Møller, supported by his father, Peter Mærsk Møller, founded the Steamship Company Svendborg, the forerunner of today’s A.P. Moller – Maersk.
Throughout the 20th century, Maersk expanded its operation from trampers to liner shipping, first with new routes to major markets such as USA, Japan, and the Philippines. The introduction of containerisation in the 1950s completely transformed global trade as well as Maersk, with modern Maersk ships capable of transporting over 18,000 containers – more than 300 times the capacity of our first steamship, all those years ago
Maersk expanded its reach from 40 countries in 1990 to more than 100 countries just ten years later. Today, Maersk is active in 120 countries across the world with the purpose of becoming the true integrator of integrator logistics.
