Human Trafficking is the fastest growing criminal activity run by organized crime syndicates. Human
These are horryfying crimes and the law enforcement colleagues that investigate these awful crime are heroes.
Trade in human remains is another terrible international crime that is difficult to even comprehend, but it is growing & needs to be addresses with force.
”These Were People Once” is a book about this absolutely horrifying criminal activity and how to investigate it.
The trafficking of human remains is an unusual and complex facet of heritage crime investigations. Author Damien Huffer has provided invaluable academic support to several of my investigations related to tribal skulls from Indonesia.
Damien Huffer also regularly provides HSI Agents with information regarding online trafficking trends in this illicit trade and has become a fixture in our network of “go to” academics. Huffer is an extraordinary example of the importance of law enforcement, especially HSI, working closely with academia in heritage crime investigations.
Thank you David Heller for the tip about this book.
Normally, the fastest route between two ports would be a straight line – but what if that straight line is filled with bad weather, danger, and other hazards? And how would you know?
Here’s how collecting data through 140 000 points around a vessel can plan the most efficient route for your cargo:

Today I was participating in a panel on ’Removing red tape – honoring the ambition of the TFA’ at the DHL GoTrade Summit 23 in Bonn. Excellent moderation by my old colleagues & friend Steven Pope, Group Head Trade Facilitation, DHL Group at the DHL.
Great panel discussion about how to remove red tape & increase our joint trade facilitation efforts. It is also important to make sure that new regulations will be designed & implemented, after consultation, in new smart ways so we don’t replace red tape with green tape. The TFA has amready made a difference, but we need more.
I shared the panel with the following excellent colleagues Carlos Grau Tanner, Director General, Global Express Association, Poul Hanssen, Chief, Trade Facilitation, UNCTAD, Dolores Halloran, Secretary to the Trade Facilitation Committee, WTO (online) and Sofia Boza, Chile Ambassador to the WTO (online).
