Abu Dhabi Customs, representing UAE Customs, is set to pilot a digital trade corridor initiative with Brazil’s Federal Receita do Brasil (RFB). The recent WCO 2024 Technology Conference in Rio de Janeiro provided an excellent platform to meet and sign a joint statement aimed at strengthening bilateral customs cooperation. The agreement and pilot has been developed by UAE ICP Suoud A., Brazil RFB @Frederico Froes Fontes, Ronaldo Feltrin, Elton Carlos Busarello, WCO Vyara Filipova, Gordana Vidanovic, WEF Tim Stekkinger, and Maersk Lars Karlsson.
This initiative aligns with the UAE’s strategic goals, and this year’s WCO theme: “Digital Frontier: Customs Embracing Innovation with Traditional and New Partners”. Abu Dhabi Customs also showcased its expertise with Khalid Al Marzooqi’s contributions as a speaker in two key sessions: “A new Era in Land Transport: Pushing Boundaries with Data and Technology” and “Unveiling the Power of Blockchain”.
The conference highlighted the need for innovative customs processes using emerging technologies and data analytics, highlighting the importance of iterative project development, including setting clear goals, using pilots to test projects on a reasonable scale, and then expanding the use of the new successful approaches to meet more fully the needs identified.
