Today, we welcomed Alexandra Mærsk to our ocean fleet – the latest dual-fuel container vessel capable of sailing on green methanol Alexandra Mærsk was christened by its godmother, Elaine Condon, Director of People & Culture at Primark during a naming ceremony held at the port of Felixstowe, UK.
Primark uses Maersk’s ECO Delivery Ocean product to reduce the GHG emissions from its seaborne transports significantly, and their participation represents the close logistics and sustainability partnership between Maersk and Primark.
“It’s great to see customers like Primark taking action and partner with us to decarbonise ocean transport. True progress in the green transformation requires collective effort.” said Vincent Clerc, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk.
Following the tradition of naming Maersk vessels after members of the founding family, Alexandra Mærsk is named after Alexandra Mærsk-Møller (1868-1953) who was an older sister of A.P. Møller, the founder of A.P. Moller – Maersk. In attendance of the naming ceremony was UK’s Maritime Minister Mike Kane, representatives of the International Maritime Organization, customers and Maersk employees.
