On March 17th Bono & Edge performed a live ’NPR Tiny Desc Concert’. I am a great fan. I started to listen to U2 in 1979, after seeing the then unknown band in a bar in Paris. After that they, like Springsteen, have followed me like a soundtrack to my life.
This performance was a preview of U2’s new album, Songs Of Surrender, featuring stripped-down versions of songs from across the band’s catalog.
The members of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts concert choir joined Bono and The Edge for their ’Tiny Desc Concert’ – and their parents had to tell some of the choir members who Bono and Edge are…(smile).
Listen to ’In a while’ that Bono wrote as a tribute to Joey Ramone and that they sang together in the hospital bed the same day that Joey passed away from cancer. Or hear the passion of ’Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of’, that is based on a conversation Bono wanted to have with Michael Hutchence from INXS, but never had time and got a chance to have.
Life has to be ’for real’ . That is one of my principles.
I can’t read stories, watch competitions or sports games or listen to music – that isn’t for real. U2s music and the songs by Bono and Edge is ghe real deal.
Magic has a name, it’s called music.
