EU duties on import of battery electric vehicles

The European Commission has imposed provisional countervailing duties on imports of battery electric vehicles from China, in the context of the anti-subsidy investigation initiated on 4 October 2023.

These measures are based on facts and information gathered during a 9-month official investigation. This included extensive research, contacts with industry and stakeholders and on-site visits.

The EU continues consultations with China on these findings and on a mutually acceptable solution. Any solution should be based on facts and in full respect of WTO rules.

Any negotiated outcome must effectively address the injurious subsidisation identified in the investigation.

The level of provisional countervailing duties imposed is as follows:

  • Sampled companies: BYD: 17.4%, Geely: 19.9%, and SAIC: 37.6%;
  • Other cooperating non sampled companies is 20.8%;
  • And for other non-cooperating companies is 37.6%.

Detailed findings and reasoning are publicly available in the Implementing Regulation, published in the Official Journal: europa.eu/!bw6QFr
